Amaterasu

Papergang Theatre / The Arcola - 2021

Amaterasu is a contemporary folktale inspired by the Shinto myth of the Japanese Sun Goddess and the God of Sea and Disease. Combining new writing, Taiko Drumming, and martial arts, the piece explores identity, family, history, and the caves—internal and external—that we hide in to survive them. Amaterasu was developed as an R&D during lockdown with Papergang Theatre, and toured as a work-in-progress to festivals in 2021.

Development has been paused as we pursue other projects, and will continue in 2023-2024.
